(Yaaseen) 36 : 66
وَلَوْ نَشَاءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَاسْتَبَقُوا الصِّرَاطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ

And if it had been Our Wish, We could surely blot out their eyes, then they would struggle to find the way; how could they see the Insight!

The body is the vehicle of the soul. If the physical sight of disbelievers were lost, they would be ready to spend any amount of money to regain it. But when Adhikr—the Food, Clothing, and Sight of the human soul, which allows one to see their eternal home in the Hereafter—is presented to them, they are not ready to utilize it. The Impartial Lord, knowing that even if their physical sight were blotted out, they would not rethink and would not be ready to be guided, gives them the chance to enjoy this worldly life for a while, considering that their eternal Hereafter will be Hell. No matter how much wealth, children, or influence they have, they will not have peace and tranquility in this world. Moreover, in the Hereafter, they will be resurrected as blind and will be dragged prone on their faces into Hell, as explained in verses 20:123-127 and 25:33-34.

Two angels were assigned to punish the people of Prophet Lot who engaged in unnatural homosexual activity. They came before Lot in the form of two handsome youths. When those people approached them for sodomy, their eyes were blotted out, as told in verse 54:37. It is told in verse 17:72 that whoever is blind towards Adhikr in this world will be blind in the Hereafter and will be on the most astray path. See explanation 9:67-68; 35:19-22.
